Author Guidelines

Carefully read the submission guidelines as follows:

General Requirements

The International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematics Education (IJMME) publishes high-quality scholarly work in mathematics education and selected areas of mathematics. Authors are expected to submit manuscripts that demonstrate novelty, methodological rigor, analytical depth, international relevance, and clear implications for the field.

Types of Manuscripts

IJMME accepts:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Systematic Literature Reviews
  • Meta-Analyses
  • Bibliometric or Scientometric Studies
  • Critical Review Articles with substantial scholarly contribution

Editorial Priority

Priority is given to manuscripts that:

  • clearly identify a research gap;
  • demonstrate originality of argument, method, framework, or findings;
  • engage critically with current international scholarship;
  • explain their relevance beyond a single local context;
  • present meaningful implications for theory, research, practice, curriculum, or policy.

Manuscript Requirements

All manuscripts should:

  • fit the scope of the journal;
  • present original work or substantial synthesis of knowledge;
  • use current and relevant literature;
  • employ sound and transparent methodology;
  • be written in clear academic English;
  • include an abstract stating purpose, method, main findings, and contribution;
  • provide 3–5 relevant keywords.

Recommended Structure

  1. Title
  2. Abstract
  3. Keywords
  4. Introduction
  5. Method
  6. Results / Findings
  7. Discussion
  8. Conclusion
  9. Implications / Contribution
  10. References
  11. Use of a tool such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote for reference management and formatting. The citation must be in the form of in-text and bibliography are based on APA 7th Edition (American Psychological Association)
  12. Make sure that your paper is prepared using the IJMME paper template (paper template 2022), (paper template 2025), and (title page). Submission is considered complete only if both documents are uploaded concurrently at the time of submission through the OJS.

Note: IJMME made changes to the template for 2025, and will take effect if submitted from November 1, 2024

For review-based studies, the structure may be adapted as appropriate, but the manuscript must still present a clear analytical framework, rigorous procedure, and substantial contribution.

What IJMME Does Not Prioritize

IJMME does not prioritize manuscripts that:

  • are purely descriptive and offer limited academic contribution;
  • focus only on narrow local practices without broader scholarly relevance;
  • present minimal originality or weak analytical depth;
  • emphasize product development without rigorous evaluation or conceptual advancement;
  • fall outside the scope of mathematics education or selected areas of mathematics.

As an international journal, IJMME prioritizes manuscripts that are relevant to a broad scholarly audience. Authors should explain how the study:

  • contributes to current international debates or research trends;

  • engages with recent and relevant international scholarship;

  • offers insights, implications, or models that extend beyond a single local context.

Studies based on local data are welcome, provided that their contribution is framed in a way that is conceptually, methodologically, or practically meaningful to readers across different contexts.

Editorial Screening

All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening. Manuscripts may be declined before peer review if they do not sufficiently meet the journal’s standards for originality, relevance, methodological adequacy, language quality, or scholarly contribution.

Peer Review Process

IJMME applies a peer-review process to evaluate the academic quality of submitted manuscripts. Reviewers assess manuscripts based on:

  • originality and contribution;

  • relevance to the field;

  • methodological rigor;

  • quality of analysis and discussion;

  • clarity of writing;

  • significance of implications.

The final decision on acceptance, revision, or rejection rests with the editorial team.

Ethical Responsibility

Authors must ensure that:

  • the manuscript is original and free from plagiarism;

  • all sources are properly cited;

  • the work has not been published elsewhere or submitted simultaneously to another journal;

  • all listed authors have made substantial academic contributions to the manuscript;

  • relevant ethical approval has been obtained where necessary.

Any form of publication malpractice will be handled according to the journal’s ethical policy.

Final Note to Authors

Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts that not only report findings, but also advance scholarly understanding, engage international conversations, and demonstrate why the study matters for the development of mathematics or mathematics education as a field.
