Publication Ethics
JCOS: Indonesian Journal of Community Service is a Journal of Community Service, containing various activities in handling and managing various potentials, obstacles, challenges, and problems involving the participation of the community and partners. This statement of the publication code of ethics is an agreement of all parties involved in the publication process of this Journal which includes managers, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. This statement of the code of ethics for scientific publications refers to the Regulation of the Head of LIPI Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications. Scientific publication ethics prioritizes three points of ethical values in publications, namely:
- Neutrality i.e. does not contain elements of conflict of interest in the management of publications;
- Justice is the granting of authorship rights to those who are entitled as authors/ writers; and
- Honesty does not contain elements of duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publications.
Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers
- Determine the name of the journal, scientific scope, periodic, submission of accreditation according to the needs, and determine the membership of the board of editors.
- Defines the relationship between the publisher, editor, bestari partner, and other related parties listed in a contract.
- Respect confidential matters, whether for contributing researchers, authors/writers, editors, or peer reviewers.
- Apply norms and provisions regarding intellectual property rights, especially copyright.
- Review journal policies and communicate them to authors, editors, peer reviewers, and readers.
- Develop guidelines for rules, ethics of behavior for editors, peer reviewers, and ensure the implementation of regular journal publications.
- Provide a source of funds for the sustainability of journal publishing.
- Build a network of cooperation between research institutions, related agencies, and prepare licensing and other legality aspects.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
- Bringing together the needs of readers and writers and striving to improve the quality of publications on an ongoing basis.
- Implement a process to ensure the quality of published written works.
- Promoting freedom of expression and choosing the integrity of the author's academic track record.
- Submit corrections, clarifications, and apologies if necessary.
- Responsible for the style and format of writing scientific papers, while the author is responsible for statements in published papers.
- Actively solicit the opinions of authors, readers, peer reviewers, and members of the editorial board to improve the quality of publications.
- Conduct periodic internal evaluations of the quality of scientific journals.
- Think openly to new opinions or views of others that may conflict with personal opinions for the advancement of science.
- Encourage authors to make improvements to the paper until it is worthy of publication and accept the author's initiative on publication ethics by including a client form in every manuscript submission.
- Avoiding decisions of an objective nature by not defending one's own opinion.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewer
- Reviewing written works, submitting the results of the review to the editor, as material for determining the feasibility of a written work to be published and improving in accordance with predetermined standards.
- The reviewer does not conduct a scientific review of the papers involving him.
- Provide advice, and positive recommendations to manuscripts of scientific papers.
- Maintain the privacy of the author by not disseminating the results of corrections, suggestions, and recommendations to a manuscript and, encouraging improvements to the written work.
- Written works are reviewed on time according to the style of publication based on established scientific rules (data collection methods, authorship, conclusions, etc.) that have been determined.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Author
- Establish that those included in the list of authors have met the criteria as authors.
- Collectively responsible for the work and content of the article includes methods, analysis, calculations, and detailing the necessary sections of details.
- Describe the origin of resources (including funding), either directly or indirectly.
- Describes improvement efforts in research.
- Pay attention to the comments made by bestari partners and the editorial board in a scientific and timely professional manner.
- Inform the editor in writing if he will retract his or her written work.
